Healthy Choices - Youth Print

Healthy Choices Youth is an initiative designed to empower and engage youth to advocate for healthy choices in their respective high schools. The program guides youth in forming Student Health Committees to plan and deliver events that promote healthy living in their schools. Through their committee experiences, students gain valuable skills  they can apply in different life settings.
Over the 2005-06 school year, three local high schools participated in Healthy Choices Youth. Valley Heights (Langton), Simcoe Composite Schools and Hagersville Secondary School formed Student Health Committees and planned a variety of activities over the school year:

  • Stress Fair with guest speakers
  • Ripple Effect presentation and guest speaker
  • Breathe Strong walk
  • Memorial Garden
  • Physical activity sessions

Health Action is always looking to expand Healthy Choices Youth into other secondary schools.  Each high school will form a Student Health Committee, choose topics that matter to them and their fellow students, and plan events for their schools.
