Caledonia on the Move

caledoniamove_logo_copy.pngCaledonia On the Move is a group of concerned citizens who are working towards creating an active community whereby residents of Caledonia walk and cycle on a daily basis. The project began in December 2004, with discussions about how to make the town more pedestrian friendly. This committee was formed in 2005 and has been working on advocacy efforts for increasing walkability in the Caledonia region.

In 2006 the committee developed and produced a walking map for Caledonia and distributed it throughout the town.  The group is led by members from the Caledonia community, as well as local recreation and service clubs, businesses, Haldimand County and the Haldimand-Norfolk Health Unit.

The goal is to encourage more people to choose walking and cycling, instead of driving.

There are many benefits in choosing to walk or cycle instead of taking the car:

  • Walking and cycling are two of the best, easiest and cost-effective ways to be active, making it easy to incorporate a small amount of either into your everyday life.
  • Walking and cycling are safe, convenient, enjoyable and popular forms of transportation and leisure that contribute to community health well-being and tourism.
  • People who are physically active have a better chance of living longer and reducing their risk of heart disease, diabetes, cancer, obesity and stroke.
